Context

An R&D series on a question every character pipeline runs into: can you hold a character and a design language steady across dozens of variations, or does every generation roll the dice again?

The challenge

Controlled variation, not a slot machine. The same era, the same packaging logic and the same printed card art had to carry across figures, boxes, blister packs and even loose parts laid out like a kit.

How it was built

Image-to-image passes in ComfyUI, feeding each good result back in as the starting point for the next and steering with prompt changes, instead of generating from scratch every time.

What surprised me

How much control survived. Packaging details, colourways and card art carried from one pass to the next far better than I expected.

Outcome

A series of studies that read as one product line, not a pile of separate prompts. Where it still breaks: the printed text on the packaging is gibberish, which has its own charm.

Why it belongs here

Consistency is the hard part of using generative tools in production. This is me practising it on something fun.

Hand 1 of 8, from a series of 80.
